Nowadays, bots are everywhere on the Internet. In fact, you may be reading this posting because you’d requested a bot to go out and pull the RSS from my website. What is a bot? Generally speaking, it’s just a small program that performs one or more functions. More than likely, you’re probably surfing the Internet with thousands if not millions of other bots that are next to you right now and you probably don’t even know it.
Let me get to the point for this posting.
I was SO compelled by this stupid CAPTCHA, I had to post about it. CAPTCHA means “Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart.” Jokingly, I think the use of CAPTCHA is a new way to determine if you’re drunk, stupid, or can’t read. As for me, I have been and continued to be severely challenged by the CAPTCHA system.
Here’s the stupidest CAPTCHA that I’ve ever seen. What the *beep* is that thing to the left of the word “commuet”??!! It looks like the CAPTCHA got lazy and just spit out some *beep* for us to figure out. To some of us, it may look like art or a headless man fighting a tailless snake. Who cares, right? It sucks and it’s hurting my head!

Frankly, I support the use of CAPTCHA for all non-mobile websites. It’s a great tool against would-be spammers, but sometimes the characters that are produced by these CAPTCHA programs are simply ridiculous and barely readable. Potentially, it could be real waste of your time.
For every stupid and complicated anti-spam system out there, there’s going to be some person or company that’s going to create a way to break it sooner or later. I say, let’s continue using CAPTCHA, but make it easier to read and clever enough to fool the bots.
Right now, I am starting to wonder if the same design team that designed the packaging for CDs and DVDs had some input on the creation of CAPTCHA output that are being used on the Internet. Things that make you go “Hmm”.
Going forward, I’m going to continue adding to this post. It appears to me there’s no shortage of stupid CAPTCHA on the Internet and I want to spread the word about this frustrating issue. Programmers need to make more readable CAPTCHA.
If you find a stupid or ridiculous CAPTCHA, please email it to me and I’ll post it. Thank you and try to avoid these CAPTCHAs’.
