As iPads gain in popularity and become more and more versatile with each new model that appears on the market, I am inclined to consider them superior to laptops in certain areas. It’s true, they are seen as more portable, they have a modern look and generally represent a new concept. Also, they can easily be used without having to wait for a long boot cycle, which is a significant advantage when compared to laptops, because it saves a considerable amount of time.
Nevertheless, the iPad technology is still far from being completely superior to PCs. First of all, they are not as capable. Personal computers can be used both online and offline with the same efficiency, while iPads don’t even have a file system. iPads are okay when it comes to organizing and arranging documents, spreadsheets and various projects since you can store them all online, but personally I prefer a more “hands on” approach when it comes to managing my own documents and I’d like to be able to store them all on my own computer in a practical way.
I also find computers easier to work with, since I am better used to them and quite frankly I consider laptops to be almost as efficient as iPads when it comes to portability. Basically, when I look at all the pros and cons I tend to be in favor of PCs, even though I fully recognize the advantages of having an iPad.
