Windows 8 Introduces Protogon File System

The news of a new and improved way of dealing with file transfers in the new Windows 8 operating system has brought a slight smile on my face. Of course, the first thing that entered my mind was that this change should have been made a long time ago. I remember how I used to struggle with copying some files from an old CD back in the old days when Windows 98 and Windows ME were the most advanced operating systems.

The truth is that file copying hasn’t improved much since then. I often found myself compelled to use other file management software even in later days after Windows XP and Vista had appeared.

From what I’ve read about the new Windows 8, however, these problems have finally been dealt with to a certain extent. Of course, I am not expecting that the time estimation be much more accurate than before when it comes to file transfers, but from what I have seen, it will be much better overall, since there is much more information.

I like to be told as many details as possible, so the extra insight on copying speed and percentage of transferred files is quite a welcome improvement. I believe this is a sign that Microsoft is making excellent progress and I’m really looking forward to seeing Windows 8 in action.
